An interaction about the road construction progress will also be held in Khalanga, district headquarters of Darchula, according to Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Ganesh Singh Thagunna.

Construction of Darchula-Tinker road section under Mahakali Corridor has been at snail’s pace although it was started some 12 years ago in 2008. Of 134 km long road section, only 44 km of track has been opened so far. Only last year, Nepali Army was entrusted with the task of opening the track remaining 87 km, from Ghantibagar to Tinker, as contract for construction of this section was not made even till last year.

Presently, Nepali Army’s construction team has set up camps at Sunsera and Dumling of Byas Rural Municipality to speed up the construction of the road.

Darchula-Tinker road project has been continuing with the road construction from Khalanga to Ghantibagar as per the contract made for this.

A sum of 320 million rupees has been allocated for the construction of Darchula-Tinker road section for this fiscal year. A tender amounting to Rs. 930 million has been announced to accelerate the construction of the Mahakali Corridor by framing it into a multi-year contract project.

A proposal of six billion rupees has been forwarded to the Finance Ministry for blacktopping 60 km of the road, from Saleti of Malikarjun Rural Municipality to Khalanga and then from Khalanga to Sunsera, within five years, according to Minister Thagunna.
