Fire guts property worth Rs. 47.2m in Nele Bazaar


The fire that broke out at Nele Bazaar, in Ward No. 1 of Thulung Dudhkoshi Rural Municipality, in Solukhumbu district on Tuesday evening has destroyed property worth Rs. 47.2 million. The fire started from the house of local Buddhi Bahadur Karki due to an electric short circuit, destroying Karki’s house and engulfing four others.

Solukhumbu District Police Office’s information officer and Inspector Ram Kishore Shah informed that the fire damaged houses of Ramesh Basnet, Ganesh Basnet, Kalpana Basnet and Pranaya Rai. While Rai’s house sustained damages, four others got completely destroyed.

A grocery and a mobile shop were in the house of Ramesh and the fire destroyed property worth around Rs. 15 million in his house. Similarly, property worth Rs. 8 million got damaged in the house of Karki.

Damages worth over Rs. 10 million were estimated in the house of Ganesh, which also had a mobile shop. A fancy shop and a mobile shop were destroyed after the fire reached the house of Kalpana, causing a damage worth Rs. 14 million.

The fire was extinguished when it had damaged the house of Rai. The fire caused damages worth Rs. 200,000 in Rai’s three-storey house. The fire, which started at around 5:30 pm, was doused at 8 pm with the help of fire engines, security personnel and locals.
