Various rivers in the Kathmandu Valley, including Bagmati, are flooded due to incessant rainfall since Sunday night.
According to the Flood Forecast Division, the water level of the Bagmati River at Khokana crossed the danger alert level at 5:00 am today. The Division has urged people living in the riverside areas to remain vigilant till noon today.
As many as 382 houses have been inundated in the Kathmandu Valley, while Nepal Police personnel have so far rescued more than 250 people from flooded areas.
Similarly, the water level in small rivers flowing through the Valley has risen and inundated the settlements along the riversides. Anamnagar and Maitidevi areas have been inundated due to flood in Dhobikhola.
Power supply in Teku and Baneshwor areas were disrupted multiple times in the night and early morning due to floods in Bagmati and Dhobikhola rivers. Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising informed that the power supply was switched off as per Nepal Police’s request.
According to Kathmandu Police Chief SSP Ashok Singh, Balkhu’s vegetable market, Kuleshwor’s housing area, Koteshwor’s Narephant area, Balaju’s Nepaltar lower area, Shankhamul Park and Kalimati’s vegetable market have been inundated.
Likewise, the Manohara River is flooded and floodwater has entered nearby settlements.
Incessant rain has also hit Chharchhare, Kalyanpur, Bankatta, Govindabasti and adjoining areas of Madi area of Chitwan district and authorities have warned of flash floods.
Meanwhile, Dhakeri and surrounding areas of Banke district have also been inundated due to incessant rain for the last six hours, with possibility of additional rainfall.
Currently, the country’s weather is influenced by the low pressure in the Bay of North-West Bengal. The Weather Forecasting Division has predicted medium to heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in all parts of the country for the next three days.
