A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kathmandu on Sunday evening said that arrangements had been made to collect the details of Nepali nationals in Afghanistan on the website of the Department of Consular Services as well as the Ministry’s website https://mofa.gov.np/registration/.
The Ministry has requested Nepalis living in Afghanistan and their family members to immediately register their details in the web portal for rescue purposes.
Along with Viber and WhatsApp being used for communication, mobile numbers + 977-9749326458 and + 977-9749326459 of the Consular Services Department have been provided to avail rescue services.
“The Government of Nepal has formally requested the United Nations, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, the European Union, Japan and the United Nations to immediately rescue and repatriate Nepalis working in diplomatic missions and international organizations in Kabul,” the statement said.
Similarly, a travel advisory has been issued by the Nepali Mission in New Delhi on the latest developments and situation in Afghanistan whereas the Nepali Embassy can be contacted through phone numbers and emails for necessary assistance, the Ministry said.
The government has also requested manpower companies sending Nepalis to Afghanistan for foreign employment to provide details of the diaspora working there and reliable information for rescue work.
Though the Foreign Ministry estimates that only about 100 Nepalis are currently living in Kabul, the Nepali Embassy in New Delhi puts the number at around 1,500. However, the actual number of Nepalis in Kabul is estimated to be higher than 1,500.
After a suicide bomber attack killed at least 14 Nepali security contractors working for the Canadian Embassy in Kabul, in 2016, Nepal government had tightened the process to move to Afghanistan for some time.
