Armed Police Force (APF) is going to build four border outposts (BOPs) of permanent nature in the northern part of the country within this current fiscal year.

According to Deputy Inspector General and spokesperson Suraj Kumar Shrestha, “We are preparing to establish BOPs targeting the northern borders points just after the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Finance passed the decision.”

The four new BOPs the APF are to be set up at Kimathanka of Sankhuwasabha, Lo Manthan of Mustang, Hilsa of Humla and Chhangru in Darchula districts.

“Preparations have already begun, and we are seeking required logistics and infrastructural support from the government although the government had given mandate to establish BOPS in the northern belt, including Darchula,” DIG Shrestha was quoted saying to The Rising Nepal.

DIG Shrestha further said that the APF are conducting the feasibility study in order to erect BOPs in Tinker area of Limpiyadhura region which is a tri-junction of Nepal, India and China.

The decision to establish such BOPs in the country’s northern border came at a time when Kalapani dispute between Nepal and India is boiling up. India’s new political map released in early November has included the disputed territory inside Indian map, thereby immediately igniting protest from Nepal.

The land encroachment is supposed to have taken place due to the absence of Nepal’s BOPs in its northern points.

The APF has 107 BOPs in total in the terai districts as of now as per DIG Shrestha.
