Four-member team of Chinese Communist Party arriving in Kathmandu today

As political crisis deepens in Nepal, Chinese officials are scheduled to visit Kathmandu Sunday onwards.

A four-member delegation led by Chinese Communist Party, Central Committee, International Department Vice-minister Guo Yezhou and Director General of the party’s International Department Chui Yan is set to visit Kathmandu.

The team from Beijing is scheduled to land in Kathmandu around noon on Sunday and will stay in Nepal for four days.

The team of Chinese officials are reportedly visiting Kathmandu to understand Nepal’s political situation after the dissolution of Parliament and rifts in the ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP), which runs a two-third majority government.

Chinese officials, however, have not disclosed the purpose of their visit.

Meanwhile, Chinese ambassador to Nepal Hou Yanqi had met with President Bidya Devi Bhandari on Tuesday and NCP co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Thursday and NCP senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal on Friday last week to discuss Nepal’s political crisis.

Hou Yanqi also held similar meetings with Krishna Bahadur Mahara, former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Barsha Man Pun last week.
