As many as 696 eye patients were examined, and 146 underwent cataract surgery in Rukum West. This service was provided at a two-day free eye surgery camp held at the District Hospital, Salle.
Dhan Bahadur KC, Head of Eye Treatment Centre, Salle, said that 146 eye patients underwent cataract surgery and 696 people were examined free of cost in the eye camp.
According to KC, a team led by eye specialist Dr. Suresh Rasaili together with 16 other health workers conducted the free eye check-up camp.
The camp was conducted on Thursday and Friday especially targeting the patients with cataract problem. Eye check-up camps were held in villages and the patients who needed surgery were selected and brought to the camp conducted with specialist services at the district level.
The camp was organised with the financial support of Nepal Netra Jyoti Sangh, Integrated Eye and Ear Programme Karnali Province, Surkhet and in the technical support of Rapti Eye Hospital Tulsipur Dang and Eye Treatment Centre Salle under the local management of Musikot Municipality.
Service to elderlies
Sanibheri Rural Municipality-11 of the district has arranged the expenses for cataract surgery for 13 senior citizens of its area.
Bhupal Singh Oli, ward chairman, informed that the ward took senior citizens of their area to the hospital for eye check-up and cataract surgery. The ward arranged accommodation and food for the elderlies.
An eye check-up camp was held in the ward on December 3 with the technical support of Sanibheri Rural Municipality and Salle Eye Hospital. The ward office took the elderlies who were diagnosed with cataract problems to the camp at the headquarters and they underwent surgery.
As many as 94 people from Ward No.11 were checked and 28 of them were found to have cataracts problem during the eye camp. Twenty four others were provided with glasses at the camp held in the ward.
Ward chairman Oli stated that although 28 people with cataracts needed treatment, only 13 showed up for treatment.
