The government Friday decided to provide Rs. 5,000 monthly allowance to the persons living with spinal cord injuries, cancer and kidney patients.
Minister for Home Affairs Bal Krishna Khand, after the Cabinet meeting held this afternoon at the official residence of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, informed that the persons living with spinal cord injuries will now get Rs. 5,000 monthly allowance.
The decision to provide this amount of allowance to persons, who are completely relying on wheeler chairs, taken before the 2017 general elections, was cancelled by the previous government led by CPN-UM chairman KP Sharma Oli.
Two weeks ago, members of the Spinal Cord Injury Association, had met the Home Minister at Singha Durbar demanding revival of the decision taken by the government led by the Nepali Congress before the 2017 elections.
The members of the Association thanked the government and the Home Minister after the Cabinet endorsed the decision, press coordinator Madhusudan Bhattarai to the Home Minister said.
Meanwhile, the Cabinet meeting decided to provide Rs. 5,000 monthly allowance to the patients of cancer, kidney ailment and other severe diseases. The decision to this regard was also endorsed from the replacement bill presented at the meeting of the House of Representatives by Finance Minister Janardan Sharma on Friday.
The Cabinet meeting has also endorsed three bills related to the replacement of the Budget Bill, Appropriation Bill 2078 and National Debt Recovery Bill 2078.
Earlier, a meeting of the top leaders of the ruling parties held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar had discussed budget and other contemporary issues.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of the CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Chairman of NCP (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairman of Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal Upendra Yadav and Vice-chair of Rastriya Janamorcha Party Durga Poudel were present in the meeting.
In the meeting, Prime Minister Deuba asked the top leaders of the ruling parties to provide him the names of ministers saying that it had become too late to give a full shape to the Cabinet, said PM’s secretariat.
In response, the leaders said they would provide him names after discussing within their respective parties.
