Govt Satisfied With Arun-III Progress


Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal said that the government was satisfied with the progress made by the Arun-III Hydroelectricity Project.
After an aerial inspection of the project in Sankhuwasabha district on Wednesday, she commented positively about the largest hydroelectricity project under construction in the country.
She inspected the dam site area and tunnels of the 900 Megawatt project being developed by SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd.

Chief Executive Officer of the developer company Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam, Arun Dhiman, had welcomed Minister Bhusal at the project site and updated her about the progress made by the project.
He said that although the project construction site lies in the remote area, 40 per cent progress was made at the project.

Following the briefing from the project, Minister Bhusal said that the government was satisfied with the progress and pledged government support required to complete the remaining work within the stipulated time.
According to the Project Development Agreement signed between the project and the Investment Board of Nepal, the project will complete in 2022.

The Rs. 144 billion project will provide 21.9 per cent electricity to Nepal free of cost and the country could receive economic benefits of Rs. 348 billion rupees.
Local people affected by the project will get the share of the project worth Rs. 1.6 billion and 30 unit electricity per month.

The project will be handed over to the Government of Nepal 25 years after the completion of construction.
Minister Bhusal also inspected the Upper Arun Hydroelectricity Project being developed by the Nepal Electricity Authority. She visited the head works area and power house. She also inspected 220 KV Koshi Corridor Transmission line as well.

Her team included Energy Secretary Devendra Karki, Finance Secretary Madhu Marasini, Managing Director of the NEA Kul Man Ghishing and other government officials.
