Grade XII Examination Postponed Again, TU To Complete Ongoing Examinations

The National Examination Board (NEB) has decided to postpone the Grade XII examination. Although the examinations were scheduled to be held from August 15, the board has postponed the examination after the Ministry of Health and Population recommended the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) to postpone the upcoming exams, said Chandramani Poudel, chairperson of the NEB.

The NEB stated that it would conduct the examinations physically after publishing the notice 15 days prior to the examinations by assessing the situation.
Earlier, the Covid-19 Crisis Management Center (CCMC) had written to the board asking to set a new date, saying it was unable to conduct examinations immediately due to the growing coronavirus infection.
For the past two or three days, the board has been under pressure from all stakeholders to postpone the examinations though the board is in mentality to conduct them this time. The NEB had earlier postponed the examinations once.

However, this time around the NEB was planning to conduct 100 marks examinations. The board had taken the exams last year by reducing their time and score load and for only 40 percent marks. The remaining 40 percent was based on the results of Grade XI, with 20 percent based on the internal assessment.
This year, 386,000 candidates will be taking their exams at 4,335 examination centers. The board had started preparations to keep only 25 students in a class by maintaining physical distance.

TU not to postpone ongoing examinations
Tribhuvan University (TU) has informed that the ongoing examinations of the varsity will not be halted for now.
Puspa Raj Joshi, controller of the Office of the Controller of the Examinations, said that the ongoing examinations would not be postponed for now and that they would conclude on August 12. Currently, the university has been conducting the examinations of Bachelor’s degree.

He added that the university would decide later about other examinations.
Along with TU, Purbanchal University, Pokhara University and other universities conducted final examinations of their students physically in July and August after getting permission from CCMC. Though many institutions completed their halted examinations in those months, the NEB hasn’t been able conduct Grade XII examinations, leaving the future of some 400,000 students uncertain.
