Meteorologists have forecast heavy rainfall in all the provinces from Tuesday night as the monsoon spreads across the country.
This year’s monsoon system reached Sudhur Pashim on Sunday, 22 days after the monsoon entered Nepal. The monsoon entered Nepal through Province 1 on June 5 this year, eight days ahead of the scheduled date.
The influence of monsoon winds has become more active across the country as it enters the far western provinces, said Sujina Shakya, a meteorologist at the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), Meteorological Forecasting Division.
According to Shakya, it will rain all day on Tuesday and heavy rainfall is expected in some parts of the country. This sequence will continue till Thursday, she said. The low-pressure line of the monsoon is likely to reach the Terai region from Tuesday to Thursday, due to which the monsoon is expected to be more active.
According to Shakya, Province 1, Madesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini Provinces have a high possibility of heavy rainfall during this period. There is also a risk of debris flow in the hilly areas of the country from Tuesday and the water level in large and small river channels and streams may rise. The transport sector may be affected due to the rising level of water in the rivers, the DHM said.
The DHM also requests the general public and all concerned bodies to take necessary precautions and precautionary measures. According to Dr. Dijan Bhattarai, Under Secretary and spokesperson at the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), there is District Disaster Management Committee and the Local Disaster Management Committee will be responsible for the risk management at the local level. They are preparing for disaster management and ready to work for the need.
“The central level cannot find out the risk areas, so the district committee under chief district officer and a local committee under mayor and chairpersons are responsible for the disaster management in the local level and they are working as per the policy and plans,” Dr. Bhattarai said.
