Heavy Rains In Different Pockets Raise Risks Of Inundation

With further activation in the monsoon phenomena from Tuesday afternoon, various parts of the country have been receiving continuous rains with very heavy rains in few places of Terai and some mountain regions for the past two days.
Heavy downpours in some mountain and Terai region since Tuesday evening have led to an increase in the water level in major rivers, putting dozens of houses and settlements at risk of inundations and being swept away.
Meteorologists have said that the present active monsoon phenomena will last until Friday.
Meanwhile, heavy rainfall has been measured in Bardaghat of Nawalparasi and Hetauda and Rajaiya areas of Makwanpur district.
Flood information section, under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), issued a warning to the residents about the risky areas and urged them to stay vigilant after heavy rains in these areas on Wednesday morning.
Spokesperson and Senior Divisional Hydrologist for the DHM Bikram Shrestha Zoowa said the residents of the risky areas have been alerted through SMSs.
“We have sent an SMS asking them to be vigilant as it could affect Sindhuli’s lower and upper region as well,” said Shrestha.

Similarly, 177.4 mm of rain has been recorded in Bardaghat of Narayani reservoir area in the last 24 hours and 121 mm in Hetauda and 63.4 in Pokhara.
Meteorologists predicted that continuous and heavy rains could cause danger even to the downstream areas of Sindhuli. Currently, the water level at Kamala River and Ranibas in Sindhuli has crossed the alert level and it was on the rise, according to the Division.
Meanwhile, meteorologist Sajina Shakya said as the monsoon low pressure line is currently close to the Terai region, there will be more rainfall around the region.
“There is a possibility of heavy rains in all the places except Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces,” said Shakya.
According to Shakya, heavy rains are likely in a few places in Province 1, Province 2, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini and in one or two places.
The Division has requested to be vigilant as there is a risk of floods and landslides in those provinces and daily life and transportation sector may be affected.
