Two years after the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the hotels in Humla are witnessing better occupancy.
After the religious tourists started coming to observe Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet from Hilsa Pass in Nepal, the hotels here are filled with tourists. Since China has restricted the cross-border movement of people in the recent spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in Tibet Province, Nepali and Indian tourists are reaching Humla to observe the holy lake and mountain from Nepal.
Pema Lama, the owner of Kailas Hotel, said that after two years, she has finally felt a sigh of relief.
Her hotel was closed for two years and recently became operational after the arrival of tourists in this season. Her hotel was full of tourists for eight consecutive days.
Lama hoped that the business would flourish in the days to come.
She said that the current situation is like the one after the great earthquake of 2015 when tourists started to flock here to observe the beauty of the Kailash.
Similarly, Bijay Lama, owner of Bijay Hotel, said that they are unable to accommodate tourists.
He said that currently more than 80 tourists are being accommodated in his hotel daily.
According to him, the hotel business was in a slump after being closed for two years but now there is some relief.
Lama’s hotel has also been crowded with tourists for the past eight days.
Likewise, Mim Tamang, the owner of Patala Hotel, also expressed his belief that the hotel will return to its old routine after the arrival of religious tourists.
Now, tourists are seen everywhere, even in the Simkot market. So far, 483 tourists have entered the district. This year, 1,400 tourists are coming to Humla from Lapcha to observe Kailash Mansarovar.
