Impeachment Recommendation Committee records statement from suspended CJ Rana

Cholendra Shumsher Rana, the suspended Chief Justice, has recorded his statement in today’s meeting of the impeachment recommendation committee. Since recording of the statement was not completed today, the next meeting of the committee is summoned on Tuesday for the same purpose.

Responding to the lawmakers’ concerns, Rana reiterated that he had not carried out any activity that demoralized judiciary, thus, there was no reason to impeach him.

Asked about an allegation on appointment of justices for his people, Rana claimed that he had done nothing against the Constitution of Nepal but argued that judges were appointed based on political sharing.

On the occasion, Rana claimed that he worked in line with the Constitution of Nepal and laws.

Of the 43 questions, the lawmakers of the impeachment recommendation committee have asked 35 questions so far, and question and answer on eight other issues would be convened on Tuesday, secretary of the committee, Laxmi Prasad Gautam said.

Question and answer of all the issues would be completed on Tuesday and remaining other acts would be advanced, according to Gautam. The impeachment motion against Rana was registered in mid-February early this year but the first meeting of the committee was held after six months on August 17.

Likewise, the Nepal Bar Association and Supreme Court Bar Association had submitted a 34-point memo to the committee to support the allegation on the suspended CJ Rana. (RSS)
