Inferno destroys 120 houses in Banke; fire still out-of-control in Jumla


A massive inferno completely destroyed as many as 120 houses in Narainapur of Banke district. Four people have been injured while trying to put out the fire.

The fire that broke out in Khodwa village, Narainapur-4 on Saturday at around 3:30 pm was completely extinguished at 1:00 am last night. It is estimated that property worth millions of rupees was destroyed due to the fire.

Banke Superintendent of Police Om Bahadur Rana said, “We have yet to evaluate the loss, but we have estimated that property worth millions have been destroyed due to the fire.”

The fire destroyed crops, wood, clothes and cash. Five fire engines were used to put out the fire.

The fire had started from the barn of a local resident and spread throughout the village.

Meanwhile, according to the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), 35 houses have been destroyed by fire in Mulli of Tila-9, Jumla.

Ward Chairman Sher Bahadur Bohora informed that 35 houses in Mulli, out of total 75 houses, have been destroyed by the fire.

According to him, the fire is still out of control. The inferno could not be extinguished due to lack of water. He said that efforts were being made to remove the roof of the houses and put out the fire by pouring sand.

Bohora said, “The fire is out of control. There is no water to put it out, there is no alternative but to watch the house burn to ashes.”

Earlier, 31 houses were destroyed in a fire at Pokhari village of Tila-7, Jumla.
