Leaders of the Janata Samajwadi Party-Nepal (JSP-N) met Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday and urged him to meet their demands in exchange for their unwavering support to the Oli-led government.
While party co-chair Mahantha Thakur along with leaders Rajendra Mahato, Laxman Lal Karna, and Sarvendranath Shukla were present at yesterday’s meeting, JSP-N Chair Upendra Yadav and leader Baburam Bhattarai refrained from attending.
Yadav and Bhattarai have been saying that the Oli-led government must be replaced in order to save democracy and constitution.
On Tuesday, JSP-N leaders demanded that their party leaders and cadres, including lawmaker Resham Chaudhary, be released from jail, citizenship bill be passed, constitution be amended, and the Lal Commission report be made public.
Former Supreme Court justice Girish Chandra Lal-led Commission had investigated the killings during the Madhes movement and submitted its report in 2017. The Madhes Movement of 2007, 2008 and 2015 are milestones in Nepal’s political journey.
Following yesterday’s meeting, JSP-N leaders said that Oli was positive about addressing their demands.
Once their demands are met, JSP-N is said to extend their support to the Oli-led government and convince CPN-Maoist Center as well as Nepali Congress to come onboard.
The party has asked the PM to prioritize the constitution amendment bill.
Meanwhile, UML deputy parliamentary party leader Subas Chandra Nembang, who was also present at meeting, said that no demands were presented during the meeting.
