Karnali Province Government To Obtain Vote Of Confidence Today

The Karnali Province government is collecting the vote of confidence today.

Chief Minister Mahendra Bahadur Shahi will be obtaining the vote of confidence from the Karnali provincial assembly members in a meeting today at 2:00 pm in the afternoon.

After the support given by the CPN-UML to the provincial government was withdrawn on March 18, the Karnali Province government has been in minority. Likewise, three provincial ministers from CPN-UML had also resigned from their positions after the party withdrew its support.

Even though a decision has been made to obtain the vote of confidence from the provincial assembly, it is difficult for the CM to receive the majority of votes in his favour. A total of 12 members of the assembly are from NCP (Maoist Centre) and there is no possibility for the NCP (Maoist Centre) to receive the support of Nepali Congress (NC) and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). Of the total provincial assembly members, six are from NC and one member is from RPP.

Neither NC nor RPP has taken the decision to provide their support to NCP (Maoist Centre) yet.

If the CM fails to receive the vote of confidence, the procedure to form a new government will move forward in Karnali Province.

On the other hand, CPN-UML has already started consulting other parties to form a government in its leadership.
