Landslide claims 3 lives in Kaski

Three people have died after a landslide occurred at Machhapucchre Rural Muncipality, Kaski District in the early hours of Friday morning.

The landslide, which occurred around 05:45 a.m. blanketed the house of Prem Raj BK, a resident of Khorakomukn in the ward-8, and killed his three grandchildren. The deceased, two boys and one girl were aged 14, 15, and 16 respectively.

The landslide reportedly slipped BK’s house 200 metres down the hill. Security personnel conducting rescue operations were able to retrieve the bodies.

The incident site is 20-km north-east from Pokhara. 

Nepal Monsoons:

Every year, during the onset of monsoons, Nepal experiences severe natural calamities which include landslides and floods. This year, as per government reports, monsoon related natural disasters have claimed more than 90 lives within a month.

Some hundreds of families have also been displaced, and are living in temporary shelters. Several victims are also reportedly facing starvation, as several factors contribute towards inability of the victims’ access to relief materials.
