Landslides caused by incessant rains have blocked three main roads of Tanahun.
The Bhanu Bhakta Road connecting Dumre Bazaar, Tanahun with Besishahar, Lamjung, the Buddha Singh Road connecting Damauli with Chitwan and the Sringapath Road connecting Nawalparasi with Palpa and Syangja have been blocked.
Police Inspector Prakash Bhusal of the Area Police Ofice, Bhanumukam, told The Rising Nepal that the Bhanu Bhakta Road was blocked by a landslide that fell at 9.45 am on Monday.
Similarly, landslides have blocked the Sringapath Road in more than a dozen places. According to Rajendra Krishna Shrestha, chairman of Rishing Rural Municipality, the landslide near the Ajambari shrine was very large so, there is no chance of the road opening immediately. Shrestha informed that the landslide occurred on Sunday.
Sringapath Road’s blockage has not only disrupted traffic in Tanahun but has also affected vehicular movement on the feeder roads of Nawalparasi, Syangja and Palpa.
Likewise, the Buddha Singh Road has been blocked since Monday after the swollen Chhabdi River washed away the concrete bridge connecting Vyas Municipality ward no. 1 with ward no. 13. Despite the damage to infrastructure, the landslides have so far not claimed any life, said Assistant Chief District Officer of Tanahun Chitranga Baral.
Additionally, a landslide in Baireni, Vyas Municipality-4, has damaged the pipes supplying drinking water to Damauli. “We are working to clear the landslide and repair the pipes. Hopefully, we will be able to restore the water supply soon,” said Brish Raj Shrestha, chairman of the Damauli Drinking Water and Sanitation Consumer Committee.
