Mass cremation was performed for bodies of nine persons who lost their lives in the landslides recently occurred in Waling municiplaity. The deceased were cremated en masse on the bank of Kaligandaki River in Ramnadi (Ramdi) on Thursday evening.
Separate eight funeral pyres were made to cremate nine bodies. The cremation of a six-month child was performed on the same funeral pyre along with her 19-year-old mother, Binita Nepali, said Nepal Dalit Sangh Syangja chair Til Bahadur Ranpal.
Jeebala Pariyar, a relative of the deceased, set the funeral fire when no one from the family left to do so. “We conducted last rites of those killed in the landslides along the Kaligandaki River after performing post-mortem at the Primary Hospital Waling”, Ranpal informed.The entire village has been aggrieved with the passing away of nine persons of the same family. Manisha Nepali, 16, who was rescued alive in the incident, is receiving treatment in Pokhara-based Gandaki Medical College.
Waling municipality mayor Dilip Pratap Khand said the municipality would bear all the expenses involved in the treatment of Manisha.
Issuing a condolence message, the municipality extended tribute to those killed in the incident and wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.
