Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the agreement signed between the Social Welfare Council and Universities regarding project evaluation is the beginning of new practice.
Addressing the agreement signing ceremony at his official residence at Baluwatar today, Prime Minister Oli shared that study, monitoring and analysis are the effective means to make programme and ongoing works result-oriented.
The activity has begun for the first time today to evaluate projects of less than Rs 10 million by involving students of universities among the complaints of people being left behind due to lack of monitoring of programmes of social sector and social welfare programmes.
He said, “It is the significant dimension to involve students in study and evaluation. The study is not only the book knowledge. It helps to develop knowledge and skill among the students as well as social development.”
PM Oli said such programme would ensure that the works carried out by the organisations are monitored as well as encouraging those implementing the programme to adopt precaution. He expressed the belief that it would help move forward in an effective manner by correcting the past weaknesses.
Relating the context of the nation’s moving ahead with a new determination to attaining the national objective of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’, the Prime Minister said the monitoring and evaluation programmes also played a major role in meeting the national goal.
He stressed the need of creating an environment of rights, social justice and equality, and fearlessness for all Nepalis to be happy, reiterating that the government was oriented towards creating this environment.
The Prime Minister also stressed the need of the regulatory bodies to carry out monitoring and regulatory activities for promoting good governance, transparency and fairness.
On a different note, PM Oli recalled that there was an appalling situation of dependency in the country, saying, “We have not been able to produce goods that we consume. We have been importing the goods that we use and using goods more than what we need.”
He underscored using the indigenous products produced within the country.
PM Oli stressed the need for the utilisation of land, water, minerals, workforce, intellectual capability and traditional knowledge as the concept of proper utilisation adopted by the country. Nepal could be the best tourist destination in the world following the utilisation of unique heritages like a relic of Ramgram of Buddha which is yet to be unearthed.
In attendance on the occasion were Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizen Juli Kumari Mahato, Minister for Education, Science and Technology Krishna Gopal Shrestha, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Parbat Gurung and Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Lila Nath Shrestha.
