Monsoon Season Begins, Heavy Rainfall Likely Within A Week In Some Places: MFD


The Meteorological Forecasting Division (MFD) has officially announced the onset of monsoon in Nepal as of this afternoon at 2:00 PM

The MFD has declared the onset of monsoon in Province 1, 2 and Bagmati Province while also predicting that the monsoon season will spread to the rest of the country within a day or two.

According to the Bulletin released by the MFD on its website, the department has also forecasted that there will be light to moderate rains with thunder and lightning at many places in the country tonight while one or two places in Province 1, Bagmati Province, Lumbini Province, Karnali Province and Sudurpaschim Province are expected to receive heavy rainfall.

The MFD has also requested the people to be cautious as it has predicted that within a week a few places will receive heavy rains to very heavy rains while many places in the country will see light to moderate rainfall. The department bulletin has mentioned that they will constantly monitor the situation and has urged everyone to be informed.

The monsoons have entered Nepal after a low pressure was developed around the Bay of Bengal from the eastern side of the country.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) has predicted more than average rainfall in Nepal for this monsoon season.
