NC Central Convention Likely To Be Deferred

The 14th general convention of the Nepali Congress scheduled for November 25-29 is likely to be deferred further.
NC Central Election Committee member Tej Rawal on Monday told The Rising Nepal that the central level general convention of the party could be rescheduled for mid-January 2022.
If it is deferred again as said by Rawal, it will be the third amendment to the general convention calendar.

In its first calendar, the NC had scheduled its central general convention for September 1-4.
The general convention dates are being deferred because of the disputes over the active membership in some districts, and the inability to hold the ward, municipal district level general convention in various districts on the pre-scheduled dates.

Now the NC Central Election Committee has rescheduled to hold the party’s district level convention in the mountainous districts before Tihar festival. Earlier, it had decided to hold the district general convention in 21 mountainous districts before Dashain. However, the party managed to hold the convention in only 12 of the 21districts.
The party said the district level general convention in all districts was likely to be held only after the Chhath festival.
The party is yet to hold its ward level general convention in 13 districts because of the active membership row. Still the disputes over the active membership row in Rautahat, Sarlahi, Bara and Rasuwa districts await resolution.

Rawal said that the party was likely to solve the active membership row in Rautahat, Bara and Rasuwa districts by Tuesday and provide the final list to the Central Election Committee.
“After the party provides the list of active members of all districts, the Election Committee will immediately begin process to hold the ward level general convention in all the remaining 13 districts,” Rawal said.
