The Standing Committee meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist party (NCP) scheduled for Saturday morning has been postponed until July 6.
Surya Thapa, press advisor to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, said the meeting had been postponed until Monday.
Thapa said the meeting was adjourned with the realization of the need of further discussion between party chairs KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ to sort out the latest political rift.
Though the chairs dup PM Oli and Dahal had on Friday agreed to sit for talks on Saturday before the Standing Committee meeting, they failed to do so as they were busy sitting for talks with the leaders of their own factions.
Party Spokesperson Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the meeting between the two chairmen was scheduled for 4 pm today. But PM Oli again postponed the meeting, said Shrestha adding that he again called the meeting for tomorrow morning,
Likewise, PM Oli on Saturday evening reached Sheetal Niwas to meet President Bidhya Devi Bhandari.
According to PM’s secretariat, PM Oli reached Sheetal Niwas for regular meeting and consultation.
Both PM and President would hold discussions on the contemporary issues, the secretariat informed. Similarly, PM Oli had also called a meeting of ministers at PM’s residence Baluwatar at 7 pm today. The agendas of the meeting were not clear.
Amidst growing calls for the resignation of PM Oli from the post of PM, chairs dup PM Oli and Prachanda sat for one-to-one meeting on Friday to sort out their differences and rebuild trust.
However, the meeting failed to make any breakthrough in forging consensus to narrow down the latest rift in the party.
As the top brass of the party failed to forge consensus on the latest rift in the party, the second rung leaders of NCP have launched a programme to build pressure on chairmen duo to rebuild trust and protect party unity.
Stating since the country had been struggling with COVID-19 and locust invasion had also triggered a catastrophic alarm, they said that in this time of crisis the ruling party shouldn’t plunge into the intra-party dispute.
Amidst the latest dispute within the party, the central committee members of NCP took an initiative particularly Minister for Women, Children and Senior Citizens Parbat Gurung, to pressurize the chairs to forge consensus.
Narad Muni Rana, CC member of NCP, said they were preparing to form a pressure group of the CC members. “The intra-party dispute will remain as it is, if the chairmen will fail to rebuild trust. So, we are preparing for the progarmmes to put pressure on both the chairmen to forge consensus for party unity,” said Rana.
Meanwhile, the parliamentarians of the Sudurpaschim State have decided to put pressure on the chairs, party secretariat members, and Standing Committee members to forge consensus.
Likewise, the central committee members of the NCP on Saturday continued the sit-in (Satyagraha) at the party’s head office in Dhumbarahi.
A group of central committee members on Friday launched the Satyagraha asking the top brass of the party to sort out the differences and save party unity.
