Nepal Airlines cancels flight to Japan due to low passenger approval

Regular flights of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC), scheduled from Kathmandu to Narita, Japan, and return have been canceled for a month.

Nepal Airlines, issuing a notice stated that all the flights scheduled for Narita from July 1 to July 31 have been canceled. The company cited the ongoing pandemic as the reason for the cancelation of the flights.

“Due to the ongoing pandemic situation, this is to inform you all that, RA 433/434 KTM-NRT-KTM scheduled commercial flights wef. 01 July till 31 July 2021 have been canceled,” the notice reads.

However, the main reason for cancelation could be the provision to carry only 60 passengers per flight for Narita, Japan.

A company official informed that there is currently a provision to carry only 60 passengers per flight to Narita, Japan.

Due to the same provision, the NAC has not been able to fly to their longest-distance destination. The flight can be deemed profitable only if 80 percent of the total capacity of the flight is occupied.

The airplanes used for international flights by the NAC have a total capacity of 274 passengers.

The government had scheduled a flight to Narita every Friday for the month of July. At present, regular flights, with proper precautionary measures, are allowed to 14 destinations with a total of 23 flights a week.
