The Nepal-India border will be closed for three days to strengthen security on the international border for the upcoming House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly election to be held on November 20.
A meeting between the security officials of Nepal and India held in Bhairahawa on Saturday decided to seal the border linking Nepal and India from midnight of November 17 to midnight of November 20.
District Administration Office, Rupandehi stated that the meeting was held to address the border security issues in order to ensure free and fair elections.
“Like in the previous general elections, this time also it has been decided to seal the border for 72 hours,” Assistant Chief District Officer of Rupandehi, Ram Chandra Aryal said.
Aryal said that the meeting decided on common issues such as enforcement of laws by both sides in the border area, immediate exchange of information to control all types of illegal activities, weapon smuggling, etc.
The security officers of Rupandehi, Kapilvastu and Nawalparasi West and Siddharthnagar, Maharajgunj of India participated in the meeting.
