Nepal won’t take part in any military alliance – Army Chief Sharma

Nepali Army chief Prabhu Ram Sharma has made it clear that the State Partnership Programme (SPP) is not in favour of Nepal.

Responding to queries about the SPP in the House of Representative (HoR)’s International Relations Committee on Friday he said that whatever came in the media was not true and Nepal won’t take part in any military alliance.

He added that the US officials have been briefed on the military alliance, and the Nepali Army would visit the US to inspect the peacekeeping team.

Sharma acknowledged that the letter was sent to the United States with the approval of the Government of Nepal and the Ministry of Defense. He said the letter was not written for a military alliance. “The letter written by the Nepali Army has come to the discussion, it is true but the letter has not mentioned the military alliance. The letter was written for humanitarian assistance during the quake,” he said at the meeting.
