The Nepali Embassy in New Delhi of India has issued a press release informing that Nepali citizens traveling to India via land route will not be allowed to take any international flight from India or fly back to Nepal.

The embassy informed that immigration officers in India will not put a departure stamp on Nepali passports if the passports do not have an arrival stamp pasted at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA).

Nepalis who have gone to India via land will not be allowed to take a flight back or travel to any third country as their passport will not have a departure stamp which is issued at TIA.

According to the press release, the decision was made in a bid to curtail human trafficking.

“The fact that an open border between Nepal and India has made it easier for Nepalis to enter India is evident. Hundreds of Nepalis travel to India each day and many of them try to take a flight to a third country from India. Foreign employment aspirants, who travel to nine countries including Saudi Arab, Kuwait, Qatar and UAE and have acquired Employment Permit as well as No Objection Letter, do not require an arrival stamp at the Indian airports. However, people traveling to other countries except the above mentioned ones will need a departure stamp issued from TIA and an arrival stamp issued at Indian airports to be able to board a flight from India,” read the press release.
