General people can exchange clean and fresh currency notes from September 11 as the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) has planned to circulate clean notes considering the major festivals of Dashain and Tihar.
The central bank will provide new and clean notes facility from September 11 (Sunday), targeting festivals like Dashain and Tihar, said information officer of NRB Narayan Prasad Pokharel. The general public can get the exchange facility for notes worth Rs. 18,500 with Rs. 5, Rs. 10, Rs. 20, Rs. 50 and Rs. 100 denominations.
“We have just continued the trend to provide an exchange facility of new notes during the festival even this year. But I want to request people to do digital transactions even for giving Dakshina,” he told The Rising Nepal.
The digital transaction of money is safe and secure in terms of transaction and reduces the cost of NRB to print bank notes, he said.
“We have managed to provide fresh notes to the public easily this year considering increasing demand for fresh notes by the people. Therefore, the NRB has arranged for the distribution of notes from NRB’s offices and banks and financial institutions across the country,” he said.
According to him, the NRB has a capacity to supply fresh and clean banknotes as per the demand of people. NRB and BFIs will provide clean notes to the public who come for exchange,” he said. However, the demand for new bank notes will not exceed Rs. 20 billion this year due to the growing tendency of digital transactions, he said.
The demand for new bank notes was around Rs. 35 billion a few years ago.
