New govt will accelerate development of Budhigandaki project: Prachanda


Former Prime Minister and Chairman of CPN (Maoist Centre) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that efforts will be made to start the construction of the Budhigandaki hydropower project, a reservoir of national pride, immediately.

With a meeting with the people’s representatives of Dhading and Gorkha districts affected by the project, chairman Prachanda said that the new government would prioritise the work of the Budhigandaki project, which is connected to the future of the entire country along with the two districts.

He also requested Member of the House of Representatives Ramnath Adhikari elected from Dhading and MP Rajendra Bajgain elected from Gorkha to hold a programme at the surrounding area of the project to publicise the common opinion of the people’s representatives of Dhading and Gorkha about the project.

MP Adhikari said that they have consulted with former Prime Minister Prachanda to make a quick implementation roadmap, to prioritise the project and to hold a unity conference on the project area and accordingly to start its construction work immediately.

He said that they hold the consultation meeting with Prachanda to start the rehabilitation programme of the locals directly displaced by the project and to immediately rectify the error seen in the distribution of compensation.

According to Adhikari, the people’s representatives elected from the districts are committed to playing a significant role in the parliament for the work of making necessary laws and allocating the budget for the upcoming federal government to accelerate the project.

People’s representatives from Dhading and Gorkha were present in the meeting.
