Niharika Rajput breaks her hunger strike after 17 days


Sonali Kumari Singh, alias Niharika Rajput, of Mahottari Jaleshwar has broken her fast-unto death strike after 17 days.

In presence of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Govinda Prasad Koirala, Rajput broke her fast-unto death strike after reaching a three-point agreement with Kathmandu Chief District Officer Govinda Prasad Rijal.

After attempting self-immolation in front of the President’s Residence, Sheetal Niwas, she continued her fast-unto-death strike while undergoing treatment at Maharajgunj-based TU Teaching Hospital.

According to Rajput’s demand and request, the three points include that the public prosecutor will now request before the court to conduct a DNA test under consideration of the Janakpur High Court; they will request the court to adopt the necessary procedure to make the DNA test reliable, and; Rajput will end her hunger strike from the agreement date.

Rajput was first on a hunger strike in Maitighar and Basantpur of Kathmandu from June 12, claiming that Shivraj Shrestha raped her in Dhanusha and has been demanding a DNA test for her child.

Home Minister Bal Krishna Khand broke the fast by giving her juice on June 17, promising to meet her demands. But that did not follow through which forced her to undergo a second hunger strike, and an attempt to self-immolate in August, 2022.
