No public transport, domestic flights on election day; alcohol sales banned from today midnight


Public vehicles will not operate in Kathmandu valley on November 20, the day of election for the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies.

It has been decided to stop vehicle movement in the Valley from 4:00 am to 7:00 pm on polling day.

Likewise, Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) Office has decided to cease regular flights towards domestic service on November 20. However, there will be no halt to chartered flights on the day of the election.

Meanwhile, the sale and consumption of alcohol will be banned all over Nepal from today midnight until the election day.

The operation of vehicles has been banned in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur in a bid to help maintain peace and security during the elections.

Chief District Officer of Kathmandu Ghanashyam Upadhyaya said a joint meeting of the chief district officers of the three districts held on Wednesday decided to prohibit the operation of vehicles as per the standards of the Election Commission on the day of the election.

He mentioned that no other vehicles would be allowed to operate except for vehicles approved by the Election Commission.

Similarly, all district administration services have been halted on November 17 and 18 except for essential services.
