Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli and co-chair of ruling party Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) have reviewed the recommendations put forth by the taskforce committee towards solving an ongoing intra-party rift.
Co-chairman of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Prachanda and other senior leaders had been demanding PM Oli’s resignation claiming Oli had been running the party unilaterally, and against party interests. PM Oli, on the other hand, had remained adamant he would complete his five year term, and would not resign from the prime ministerial chair.
After dozens of meetings were unable to find a common ground between the two co-chairs, a taskforce was formed. The task force formed under the leadership of party general secretary Bishnu Poudel comprised of standing committee members Bhim Rawal, Surendra Pandey, Shankar Pokhrel, Janardan Sharma and Pampha Bhusal submitted its recommendations on August 22.
The taskforce had submitted a 16-point report to the two chairmen. The taskforce has proposed PM Oli to stay as Prime Minister for full term of the House of Representatives and co-chairman Prachanda to be executive chairman till the unity General Convention of the party.
Three days after the submission of the report, the chairmen sat for talks on Tuesday, and have reportedly agreed upon the recommendations, therefore paving way for resolving the dispute.
The taskforce has also unanimously recommended political reform in the party and advocated for a long-term solution rather than finding a temporary solution to the recurrent problem.
