Chairman of the CPN-UML and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has instructed the party ranks to start preparations for the upcoming federal and provincial elections.
Addressing a programme organised in Jhapa on Friday, chairman Oli asked party leaders, cadres and party organisations to make preparations for the upcoming election by seriously reviewing May 13 local poll.
“It is necessary to seriously assess the unnatural defeat in the local elections,” he said.To the chagrin of Oli and his party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP)’s Ram Kumar Thapa and Nepali Congress’s Regina Bhattarai have been elected as mayor and deputy-mayor in Damak, Oli’s home town.
“In party system, it is not about the victory or defeat of a person, but of the party. The candidate selected by the party should win,” he said. The UML government is becoming successful due to its popular policies and programmes introduced as per the people’s aspiration, he claimed.
He also claimed that all the forces tried to topple the UML’s government led by him. “In such a situation, we should move forward with high morale and it is not good to have weakness within us,” said Oli.
Oli is in a three-day visit to his home district Jhapa. This visit has been viewed as an important at a time when there are rumours that he will not file his candidacy from Jhapa and his constituency No. 5. He also inquired about the state of the party from its people’s representatives and leaders of his constituency.
