One person has died while 15 are injured after being trapped in an avalanche at base camp III of Manaslu mountain in North Gorkha.
Chief District Officer of Gorkha, Shankar Hari Acharya, said that Anup Rai, who went as a porter with foreign tourists to climb the mountain, has died.
“The avalanche that fell in the fourth base camp reached the third base camp and they were crushed under that landslide,” said Acharya.
“As soon as we got the news about the incident, we took steps for rescue mission, even though a helicopter flew from Samagaon to the base camp, it could not land at the base camp due to adverse weather,” Acharya informed.
He says that it is difficult to get accurate details about the incident as the police is also unable to reach the base camp.
The police said that the search for other missing persons is going on.
