One Million Doses Of Vaccines From China By June 2


One million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to be provided by People’s Republic of China under its assistance programme to Nepal will arrive in Kathmandu by June 2. According to a regular press statement issued by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) on Monday, as part of the programme, a charter flight of Nepal Airlines, the national flag carrier, is about to make a cargo flight on Monday midnight to airlift 800,000 doses of vaccines from Beijing to Kathmandu.
“These doses of vaccines will be here in Kathmandu at 2:00 pm on June 1,” Joint Secretary and spokesperson for the OPMCM Kiran Raj Sharma, said. A cargo flight of the Nepal Airlines will fly to Beijing at 11:00 pm on Monday, he said.
Similarly, another two charter flights of Himalayan Airlines will fly to Tibet Autonomous Region of China to bring in 200,000 doses of vaccines and these flights will land in Kathmandu on June 1 and 2,” Sharma said.
These one million doses of vaccines are set to be provided by China based on telephone conversation held between the Presidents of both the countries.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari had made a telephone conversation with her counterpart Xi Jinping on May 26.
On May 30 as well, President Bhandari wrote a letter to UK’s Queen Elizabeth II requesting to help Nepal by providing COVID-19 vaccines.
According to an update provided to the OPMCM by the Ministry of Home Affairs, 2,123 Nepali citizens have entered into Nepal on Sunday from various border points. Administration Offices across the country has so far collected 10,220 oxygen cylinders and of them, 9,567 have been distributed to various hospitals as of Sunday.
Within the restriction period so far, police administrations from across the country had taken action against 110,832 vehicles and fined them as per the rule. In the last 24 hours, the government has also airlifted 382 tourists stranded in various tourist destinations from Lukla, Nepalgunj and Pokhara.
