Outgoing Australian Ambassador to Nepal, H.E Peter Budd has bid a fond farewell to Nepal and its people on Wednesday, 28th October, 2020. Budd, a great friend of Nepal, had been in Kathmandu for over three and a half years.
Sharing his farewell message on the social media handles of the Australian Embassy in Nepal, Ambassador Budd thanked Nepali friends, diplomatic colleagues and partners across government and civil society for their support and warm engagement. He also expressed regret for his inability to bid farewell to many people owing to Covid-19.
Mr Budd is a career officer with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). Before serving the Australian Embassy in Kathmandu, H.E. Budd served as Deputy Head of Mission in Baghdad, Pretoria and Port Vila. In Canberra, Mr Budd was most recently Director, Property Tender Unit and Estate Section. He has also served as Director, Pacific Regional Section and Director, Fiji Taskforce.
His efforts towards the repatriation of stranded Australians and New Zealanders on 1st April, 2020 and two other subsequent flights in the following months was highly noteworthy.

He was also active in strengthening bilateral relations between Nepal and Australia, and in February, 2020, was seen observing 60 years of relation with Nepal and Australia with Nepal’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawali.
Mr. Budd also shared a profound love for Nepal – he would be seen sharing images of his travel adventures, cultural learnings, and cuisine explorations on his social media during his stay in Nepal.
