Over 5,000 obtain passports in five months in Gulmi


Over 5,000 citizens of Gulmi have obtained their passports in the last five months. According to a statistics of the District Administration Office (DAO), it has issued 5,689 passports over that period, of which 1,202 were issued in July, 1,000 in August, 1,097 in September, 1,060 in October and 1,272 in November.

Hari Prasad Gaire, information officer at the DAO, said that most of passport applicants were youths aged 18-25.

Computer operator Sandesh Adhikari of the Office said that most of the youths sought passport for foreign employment, and a few of them for abroad study. Within the same period, the office also collected a revenue of over Rs. 30 million.

Chief District Officer Punya Bikram Poudel said that due to the overcrowding of service seekers at the DAO in recent days, applications were being filled out from 6:00 am.

He said that even though the office lacked enough staff, they were tirelessly working for the people of Gulmi from early morning till late night.

Poudel added that even though it had the capacity to serve 35 to 40 people daily, more than 100 were seeking the service daily. In the same period, 4,575 people have obtained citizenship certificates.
