Over 8,000 traffic rule violators booked in four days in Valley


Over 8,000 traffic rule violators have been penalised in the past four days across the Kathmandu Valley. According to the data provided by the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office (KVTPO), majority of violators were booked under drink and drive from July 13 to 16.

On Saturday (July 16) alone, 1,742 traffic rule violators were penalised, and of them, 183 were booked under drink and drive. Similarly, 25 were fined under lane violation, 35 for not abiding by red light rule and 19 for improper or torn out number plates.

Likewise, 32 taxis were fined for charging exorbitant fare, not agreeing to carry passengers in metre, no t fixing the broken ones and for not installing new metre.

On July 15, altogether 2,126 vehicles were penalised. Among them, 223 were for drink and drive, 80 for lane violation, 36 for red light rule violation

and 23 for lacking proper number plates. Likewise, on July 14, 2,096 traffic rule violators were booked. Of them, 144 were held in drink and drive case, 58 for breaching lane rules, 44 red light violations and 16 improper number plates. On July 13, traffic police had booked 2,296 individuals and among them majority were fined for lane violations.

There were 124 lane violations, 107 drink and drive, 38 red light violations and 20 for lacking right number plates.

Traffic Police have been conducting mandatory awareness classes for those booked under drink and drive, red light violation and lane violation.

The department has also managed both physical and virtual classes which the violators can attend as per their ease.

Traffic rule violators are fined between Rs. 5,00 and Rs. 1,500 as per the nature of the violation and prevailing laws.
