A program on child rights and early childhood development has been introduced in three local levels of Sinja in Julma district.
Sustainable & Equitable Development Academy (SEDA) Nepal, with the support of Plan International Nepal, has launched a program called ‘Children Dream’ in some wards of Hima Rural Municipality, Sinja Rural Municipality and Kanakasundari Rural Municipality of the district.
According to Manju Thapa, Project Coordinator of SEDA Nepal Jumla, 11 parental education programs that teach about the aspects, importance and strategies of early childhood development, have been launched in the three local levels.
More than 1,500 people have already benefitted from the parental education program, she added.
Parental education provides knowledge about basic learning ways and the approaches to support children’s physical and mental development, as per Thapa. For now, the program has been introduced as a pilot project in some wards and it will be extended to other wards if its yields the desired results, she said.
Local level health sector manpower and early childhood development center manpower, including women health volunteers, have been facilitating the parental education. Under the project, parents are reportedly taught about basic learning, education, physical and mental development of children.
The program places a strong emphasis to reduce discrimination and promote awareness in parental education. Prem Sedai, chief of the District Public Health Service Office, Jumla, said that the program would be more effective in reducing child mortality rate, as it emphasizes on health and sanitation.
