Nepal government has brought a strategy to innoculate the general public travelling towards their hometowns and villages to celebrate the Tihar festival with anti-COVID vaccine at various check posts in Kathmandu Valley.
Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has set up COVID-19 vaccination centres at Gongabu Bus Park, Kalanki, Balkhu, and Koteswor – the major long route public transport transit in the valley.
The Department of Health Services has said people are being inoculated at a good pace back in the villages through the ward offices. The inoculation programme is targeted at people who missed vaccination in their villages.
Those unvaccinated who are willing to take the jabs are required to provide valid identity cards showing their age and will receive any one of the Vero Cell or Astra Zeneca vaccines at the vaccination centers.
Hundreds of people were seen waiting in a line for their turn to receive the COVID-19 vaccine at these centres. The vaccination programme will be conducted till 4:00 pm today.
Until now, the government has administered over 16 million doses of vaccine, of which at least 8.6 million have received two doses, while 7.3 million have taken only one dose. This means that, slightly over 28 per cent of the total population have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 24 per cent of the population received the complete two doses.
