PM Deuba, Chairmen Prachanda And Oli Discuss MCC, Local Election


The meeting among Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, Chairman of CPN (Maoist Center), a major party in the ruling coalition, and Chairman of CPN (UML), the main opposition party, has concluded.

The leaders were accompanied by their deputies in the parties.

Talking with the journalists after the meeting, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gyanendra Bahadur Karki said that the discussion centered on national political issues, obstruction of the parliament, and millennium challenge compact (MCC).

He said the leaders were one to continue the discussion in the days to come. He also added that the leaders discuss ways to make the parliament effective and settle the MCC issues by discussing them in the parliament.

Emerging from the meeting, UML general secretary, Shankar Pokharel told the media persons that the meeting dwelt on issues pertinent to the national political situation including upcoming elections and COVID-19 as well as international issues, particularly, the millennium challenge compact (MCC).

He said that the UML in the meeting asked the ruling coalition to come up with a clear view of the MCC.

The UML general secretary added that the UML also urged the Prime Minister to ensure an enabling environment for the main opposition to be present in the parliament.

“It is the responsibility of the government to ensure participation of the main opposition in the parliament,” he said.

He said that the UML stressed that the local level elections should be held in time.
