Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that university education should be linked to research and innovation. Addressing the 35th senate of Purbanchal University on Friday, the PM said university should impart life-skill education and technological knowhow instead of crude theoretical knowledge to make students self-reliant.
The PM said the university should produce creative human resources to lead the society. PM Deuba, who is also the Chancellor of the university, said the higher education should be supportive for the country’s socio-economic transformation and encourage innovation.
Likewise, the PM congratulated the Purbanchal University for making outstanding achievements in the past three decades, adding that this university was established as an institution to produce skilled and quality human resources for the nation’s overall development and prosperity.
“I am confident that the policy and programmes for the fiscal year 2022/23 presented by the university’s Vice-Chancellor and the budget by the Registrar would add a new dimension in the development and expansion for the educational progress of the university,” PM Deuba said. Deuba expressed his confidence that the concerned ministries would provide cooperation to enforce the policies and programmes presented by the Vice-Chancellor.
The PM urged the university authority to coordinate efforts with the related ministries and hold consultations with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology regarding various issues raised in the policies and programmes.
Furthermore, he drew the attention of the university to produce skilled human resources especially in the faculty of management, science and technology, engineering, medical, education and law.
PM Deuba also underscored the need that the University conducted research on climate change impacts in Nepal and the mitigation measures. According to the PM, time has come to ensure technology in education sector. He wished the Purbanchal University became a centre of excellence with promotion of research and practical education.
The PM also assured that government was ready to extend support to the University to solve the problems it has faced in implementing its policy and programmes. (RSS)
