Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda) has received a total of 268 votes in the vote of confidence held in the House of Representatives (HoR) today.
In today’s meeting of the HoR, PM Dahal sought a vote of confidence from the parliament and was able to secure a historic majority.
Out of 275 members of the HoR, 270 members were present in the meeting today and 268 voted in favour of PM Dahal. This is the highest vote a prime minister has ever received in the vote of confidence in the HoR.
All present in the meeting, except People’s Front Nepal (PFN) and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party (NWPP), voted in support of PM Dahal.
On December 25, President Bidya Devi Bhandari appointed CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Dahal as Prime Minister of Nepal as he was able to gather the support of 169 lawmakers.
However, the Constitution of Nepal states that a prime minister appointed under Article 76(2) needs to secure a vote of confidence from the parliament within 30 days of the appointment.
