The government is all set to inaugurate the Upper Trishuli 3 A Hydropower Project today. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli will inaugurate the project by switching the button on from Kathmandu while Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Barsaman Pun, is scheduled to attend an inaugural ceremony at the project venue.

The hydropower project with 60-megawatt capacity is located at Kispang rural municipality-05 of Nuwakot district.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, the project will generate 14,40,000 units per day.

Two units of the project – both capable of 30 watts each- were on the trial production phase since May and August of the year, respectively.

The project is likely to maintain the supply of electricity to Kathmandu during the winter season as the valley is the project’s nearest main load center. The project is believed to produce at least 45-megawatt electricity even during the winter season, when the production of electricity is largely affected.

The project is also expected to reduce Nepal’s dependency on India for electricity during winters, according to NEA.

The project is a joint investment of Nepal government and Nepali Electricity Authority with a subsidy loan from the Chinese government.
