Police destroy marijuana cultivated in Narayan Khola of Lalbandi Municipality

Police have destroyed cannabis cultivated in more than eight bighas of land in Narayan Khola area, a remote part of Lalbandi Municipality-14 in Sarlahi district. As soon as new police Chief Naresh Raj Subedi took the charge of the Malangwa District Police Office, he began an operation against the illegal cultivation and trading of cannabis in the district.

A joint police team deployed from the District Police Office Malangawa and the Area Police Office Lalbandi destroyed the marijuana plants.

On the first day on Sunday, the police team cleared eight bighas of cannabis in the Satrakattha area of Narayan Khola. SP Subedi said that as soon as he arrived in the district, he got information about the illegal commercial farming of cannabis in the Narayan Khola area, when he went there for a visit on Saturday, and sent a police team to destroy the plants the next day.

SP Subedi said that now they would send the police continuously to destroy the marijuana plants in the area.

Every year, the police go to the Narayan Khola area and destroy marijuana. However, the locals have not stopped cultivating marijuana.

Locals of Narayan Khola located in the Chure area, where there is no road and one has to cross the river to reach the village, have been cultivating marijuana for a few years now.

There is a huge field of cannabis cultivation. One resident of Satrakattha in Narayan Khola has complained that they were hit hard when the police suddenly came and destroyed their flowering marijuana plants. Although they know well that hemp cultivation is prohibited by law, the locals have been cultivating it because of the lucrative income they got from selling it.
