As the number of COVID-19 infected people is increasing and the gradual shortage of oxygen looms larger, the police administration is given the task to provide security and surveillance of all oxygen industries for its proper distribution, management and prevent its misuse.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a circular to the Chief District Officers of all 77 districts asking the police administration to stop the misuse of oxygen and make arrangements for security so that it can be used in the right place.
Janak Raj Dahal, Joint Secretary and spokesperson at the Ministry said that the Chief District Officer has been instructed to provide security in all the oxygen industries to prevent misuse. The respective district CDO then instructed the police administration to increase surveillance of their in the oxygen generating factories.
According to him, the ministry has given instructions to the chief district officer through the circulars.
Following the instruction, the concerned district administration office has started mobilising the police on the same basis.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar, who is also the spokesperson at Nepal Police Headquarters, said that the Nepal Police has also instructed all the District Police Offices to provide necessary security as per the instructions of the Home Ministry.
“Mainly oxygen should not be misused, industries of its should operate at full capacity, and should be checked from its illegal export to India. For that, all the districts have been instructed to provide necessary security in coordination with the local administration,” he told The Rising Nepal on Wednesday.
Earlier, the industrialists had demanded security saying that there was a shortage of oxygen. Entrepreneurs have been saying that there is more shortage of cylinders than oxygen in the country now.
At present, there are 22 oxygen industries in country. Nepal Police, Nepali Army has also its oxygen plants at their hospitals.
