General public and Guthi representatives in Nepal held demonstration in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, on Sunday against the proposed Guthi Bill. The peaceful protest which included displaying of placards and slogans were allegedly dispersed by police using force and water cannons.
The proposed bill is registered in the National Assembly of the Federal Parliament. People are demanding to revise the bill which they believe will politicise the public “guthis” (trusts).
The stakeholders, culture experts are concerned that the bill includes certain provisions if accepted it will destroy the age old Guthi tradition.
