Rapid tests to be done in Baglung, Kailali and Kanchanpur


The government has decided to conduct rapid tests in three districts of Nepal – Kanchanpur, Kailali, and Baglung. Kanchanpur and Kailali have 4 confirmed cases of COVID-19, and Baglung has 2.

“We want to ensure that all those who have come in contact with COVID-19 patients are tested for the virus and the government will make necessary arrangements for the tests”, Finance and Communication minister, Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada said on national television. Dr. Khatiwada is also the spokesperson of the government.

The cabinet meeting also decided to further restrict movement from one province to another, one district to another, and from one local level constituency to another.

Commenting on speculations regarding the government’s decision to prolong the lockdown, he said the government hasn’t arrived upon a decision – yet.

The government has launched a nationwide lockdown to prevent and control the transmission of the novel coronavirus. The lockdown, as of Sunday afternoon, is effective until April 8, 2020.
