With the growing number of COVID-19 patients, many hospitals in Nepal are not in a condition to continue their services in lack of life-saving oxygen.
The second wave of coronavirus has wreaked havoc in Nepal, infecting over 8,000 people and killing around 200 on daily basis. Many patients are unable to get hospital beds.
As such, artists from the Nepali entertainment industry have united to provide services to the needy. From comedian Sitaram Kattel (Dhurmus) to actor Paul Shah, comedian Kedar Ghimire (Magne Buda), actors Najir Hussen, Puspa Khadka, and Captain Bijaya Lama are now busy supporting the hospitals, patients and others affected by the pandemic.
Comedian Sita Ram Kattel, popularly known as ‘Dhurmus’, has donated oxygen to the hospitals for the treatment of coronavirus patients. Also, the chairman of Dhurmus Suntali Foundation handed over 50 oxygen cylinders to the 140-bed COVID-19 Hospital set up at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital, Chitwan.
Giving more priority to humanitarian works amidst the pandemic, Dhurmusis is continuously managing oxygen, ambulance service and blood to the patients and hospitals. He also frequently organises blood donation programmes. “So far, more than 800 people have been served from the help desk set up by Dhurmus Suntali Foundation and health items have been handed over to Bharatpur Hospital,” Kattel wrote in his Facebook.
Similarly, actor Nazir Hussain has donated cash Rs. 100,000 to the National Innovation Centre, an organisation of Nepali scientist Mahabir Pun to buy oxygen. The innovation centre has been providing oxygen and medicines to hospitals and coronavirus patients free of cost.
Actor Pushpa Khadka has also provided financial assistance to buy 50 cylinders of oxygen gas for the coronavirus infected patients in his home district Kailali. He has helped through the Maina Devi Foundation to buy oxygen.
Likewise, actor Paul Shah, who had also supported many needy people during the first wave of coronavirus, is now busy extending a helping hand. He and his team are constantly travelling to many districts to distribute oxygen-filled cylinders to hospitals.
After reaching Jitpur of Bara, Paul and his team have brought oxygen-filled cylinders to Kathmandu and are now distributing them to various hospitals. Paul informed through social media, “After bringing the filled oxygen cylinders from Bara, we are now delivering them to various hospitals in Kathmandu and now we are planning to go to my home district Dang soon, if you have an empty cylinder, please provide it to us.”
During this pandemic, actress Sweta Khadka, comedian Rajaram Poudel and other artists are also helping the COVID-19 hospitals and the needy people.
